Dave Meltzer Awards Two 5-Star Ratings To WWE WrestleMania Weekend Matches
You wait six years for a five star match...
Apr 13, 2018
Dave Meltzer has awarded two WWE matches 5-star ratings in the wake of WrestleMania weekend.
This means that, so far, 2018 has produced three 5-star WWE matches - after Andrade Almas vs. Johnny Gargano was given full marks at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia in January. This comes after a wait of over six years, during which Meltzer had given no WWE match five stars since John Cena vs. CM Punk at Money in the Bank 2011.
The two new 5-star matches in question are both from NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, a show which immediately drew rave reviews from critics and fans all across the wrestling community.
Unsurprisingly, the main event between Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa was one of the bouts in question. The other was the opening six-man ladder match, in which Adam Cole became the inaugural NXT North American Champion.
Meltzer's other ratings from TakeOver: New Orelans and WrestleMania 34 are as follows:
