David Finlay is officially a free agent as his contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling has expired. That doesn't mean Finlay is finished with NJPW just yet, as he is scheduled for New Beginning USA on February 27 where he will take on Fred Rosser.
Finlay did appear to bid farewell to New Japan's fans in Japan at New Beginning in Osaka following a loss to Callum Newman. Finlay bowed to the crowd and hugged Gedo before kissing the NJPW logo while making his way to the backstage area.
Despite this, Fightful Select has reported that NJPW are actively trying to re-sign David Finlay. There is also interest in Finlay from WWE to the point the company have already planted seeds on NXT TV for Finlay to jump straight into a storyline through his brother Uriah Connors.
There may also be interest in Finlay from All Elite Wrestling and Clark Connors' impending AEW signing was believed to be a likely indication that the promotion had stepped up their interest in the final leader of Bullet Club.
David Finlay has held numerous championships since joining NJPW in 2015, including two reigns as IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion and one reign with the NEVER Openweight Title. He won the New Japan Cup in 2025 but failed to defeat Hirooki Goto for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis.
