DDP Reveals Vince McMahon's Original Plans For Scott Hall Pre-Razor Ramon

Vince McMahon had something different in store for Scott Hall until Razor Ramon was pitched

The wrestling world has been reflecting on Scott Hall’s wrestling career in the wake of the death of the beloved two-time WWE Hall of Famer.

Rising through the ranks of the AWA, Hall would become a household name upon joining WWF as Razor Ramon. However, Hall’s longtime friend Diamond Dallas Page has spoken of the fact that Hall was initially set to portray a very different character altogether, telling the SK Wrestling Bro Show:

“They wanted him to be – Vince told him he wanted him to be a GI Joe character,” DDP said. “That was Vince’s idea. That was what Scott told me. I don’t know… it came out of his [Scott Hall] mouth. And he said [to Vince McMahon] ‘You know, I got this other idea.’ And when he gave it to him and rolled into character, Vince’s like, ‘That’s it!’”

The change into Razor Ramon proved to be gold for Hall and WWE, with Razor winning the Intercontinental Championship a then record four times, before he changed the wrestling industry altogether in WCW under his real name.

Hall himself previously acknowledged the potential GI Joe character, telling Yaz Jung:

“I told him – Vince, if you want me to be a G.I. Joe I’ll be the best damn G.I. Joe I can be – but have you ever seen Scarface? Say Hello…to the Bad Guy.”
