DDP Was Nearly Paralysed After Last WWE Match Before Retirement

DDP stepped away from WWE after nearly getting paralysed

DDP officially retired from the ring all the way back in 2002 after he suffered from a serious back injury during a match with Hardcore Holly, though he would make several returns to the ring in the many years since, with much of that being down to the great condition he has gotten in since starting his DDP Yoga.

When talking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, DDP recalled almost getting paralysed in that aforementioned match.

"I go back about my neck, and [his doctor] goes, 'Let me show you something,' and he shows me how bad my neck is. He goes, 'You were so lucky, if you'd have landed a little right or a little left, you'd be a quadriplegic right now. You would be done.'"

DDP went on to discuss the positive impacts of DDP Yoga, and how it initially shocked his spine doctor when it came to his recovery.

"When my spine guy, who first guided me when I blew my back out and broke my back, he goes, 'You're done’. Three months later, because of what would become [DDP Yoga] I went back to him, he's like, 'I've never seen this recovery ever, what did you do?' I told him and I showed him and he goes, 'Don't stop doing that, keep doing whatever the f*** you're doing.'"

DDP’s last official match came on AEW Dynamite back in 2020 when he teamed with QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes to take on the trio of MJF, The Butcher, & The Blade.
