WWE is soon set to host the Worlds Collide event alongside recently acquired promotion, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. There has been plenty of talk in recent months over WWE’s plans for AAA, including the implementation of their own booker per an exclusive report from Cultaholic, among other things.
When it comes to the leading face of this new era of AAA, Fightful Select has given some insight. Vikingo is reportedly set to be a major name in the crossover between the two promotions, and it would be wise to expect him to win back the AAA Mega Championship from Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) very soon. It is noted by Fightful that it is no coincidence that they have a title match booked a week before Worlds Collide, with the idea seemingly that Vikingo will represent AAA as the face of the company over the controversial Del Rio. A source noted that even if Del Rio remains with the company, the title will be “surely coming off him.”
In terms of WWE’s approach to AAA, agents have been sent out to get a lay of the land, reporting back on how AAA is run. Jeremy Borash has notably been involved in talking with AAA talent. Several wrestlers in AAA have reportedly been “knocked down a few pegs” in terms of power and standing, with it very much feeling as though a big change is occurring.
The first match for the upcoming Worlds Collide event was announced on SmackDown this week.
