Dragon Lee Wins NXT North American Championship

A new champion was crowned at last night’s NXT Deadline premium live event, as Dragon Lee successfully dethroned Dominik Mysterio to become the brand new NXT North American Champion.

Stepping into the hole left by the injured Wes Lee, Dragon Lee rose to the occasion and managed to score his first title win in WWE. With Rey Mysterio in his corner (well, on commentary) he managed to defeat the son of the legend. Without Judgment Day by his side, Mysterio didn’t have his usual interference to help him through the bout. 

In the end, it was Mysterio’s own cockiness that served to be his downfall. He went for the 619, but in taking too much time trash talking and taunting his Hall of Fame father, Lee was given enough time to recover and dodge the move, before hitting the champion with a powerbomb and Asai DDT to score the pinfall win. With Lee’s recent call up to WWE SmackDown, it isn’t currently clear if he will be jumping between brands, or staying on NXT for the time being.
