Drew McIntyre returned to WWE programming on the July 4 edition of Friday Night SmackDown after a little over a month away, being written off TV following his Steel Cage match with Damian Priest at Saturday Night’s Main Event. McIntyre was initially slated to be taking an extended period away from the ring, but has returned sooner than expected.

Despite only taking a little while off, McIntyre has worked hard to get himself into much better conditioning, and revealed in an interview on Fox News that he’s feeling better than he’s felt in the last six or seven years.

“I honestly feel better than I’ve felt in about, minimum, six or seven years. During this time off, I’ve had a chance to step back and look at everything from an outside perspective, the product itself and more specifically me, because I’m only competing with myself as far as I’m concerned, nobody else. And I’ve realized, wow, okay, I’ve got some areas I need to improve upon.

“For the first time in my life, I’ve brought in somebody to start the diet the right way. I’ve brought in somebody to kick my arse in the gym. I’ve brought in somebody to start doing rehab and stretching things I’ve never done in my life. And, it’s unbelievable what it’s opened in my body. I feel exactly like I did, probably before I won the Royal Rumble in 2020. The way I’m moving about now, I feel unbelievable.”

It was stated that McIntyre had been working injured prior to taking time off.
