Drew McIntyre Vs. Randy Orton Set For WWE Clash Of Champions 2020

Will The Viper capture his 14th world title...

WWE kickstarted the build to Clash Of Champions last night and a new number one contender for Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship was crowned. To establish a new challenger, WWE announced six Superstars would face off in singles matches. The winners would then advance to a Triple Threat match in the main event.

Raw opened with Keith Lee vs. Dolph Ziggler and The Limitless One continued to establish himself on the red brand as he vanquished The Showoff after 11 minutes. The next match was Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens and The Viper had an easier ride than his Payback opponent as Aleister Black attacked KO from behind before the bell. Owens decided to fight on but the beating was too much and The Apex Predator put him away with an RKO after 16 seconds.

Rey Mysterio was originally scheduled to face his longtime rival Seth Rollins in the final singles match but The Master Of The 619 tore his triceps at Payback and was unable to compete. He was replaced by his son Dominik but the younger Mysterio didn't fare well in his rematch with The Monday Night Messiah and was pinned after nine minutes.

Lee, Orton and Rollins then faced off in the main event. The match was highly competitive throughout and the former NXT Double Champion again looked like a star. He wasn't able to pick up the win, however, as after he hit Seth with a Spirit Bomb, Orton appeared from out of nowhere and caught him with an RKO. The 13-time world champion didn't have the confidence to cover Lee, though, and he scurried across the ring and pinned Rollins to win the match.

With that, Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton II is set for Clash Of Champions on September 27.
