Edge Open To WWE WrestleMania Match Against John Cena

The Rated-R Superstar is open to rekindling their rivalry

Kicking off their feud at New Year's Revolution 2006 with Edge's Money In The Bank cash in, John Cena and Edge's rivalry would dominate WWE Raw programming for much of the year, finally coming to an end nine months later at Unforgiven.

The two men would then feud on and off for the next few years and Edge established himself as one of the best rivals of Cena's career.

The Rated-R Superstar reflected on their feud during an appearance on The Kurt Angle Show and he discussed how their rivalry was only supposed to last three weeks but ended up going on for three years.

"When I got to John, and we kind of got on the same page and he realised what I was out to do, which was just that, to make him Superman. Once we both had that understanding. Then, we were off and running, because I don't think that program was supposed to last more than three weeks. After WrestleMania 22, [where] I got to work Mick [Foley], who is another guy that just did so much for my career," Edge said.

"Then they'd circle back to John and I, because I think it worked so good in that three weeks and ratings went up, and all those things, you know, the website hits and everything went through the roof. So it was like, go back to that. Then once they went back to us, I think we ran for like a year and a half after that. Then they rebooted again, and they rebooted again, and we'd ended up on SmackDown and be rebooted. It kept going and going."

Despite feuding for three years, Cena and Edge only faced off at WrestleMania in a Triple Threat Match that also included The Big Show. The 11-time world champion would be open to facing his former nemesis in a singles match at The Showcase Of The Immortals, though.

"The only thing was with John and I, we never wrestled a one-on-one at WrestleMania. Which is crazy, right? We worked everything else, but... I'm back. The scent is in the air. You never know, it could happen one day," Edge continued.
