Edge Returns On WWE SmackDown, Attacks Roman Reigns

The "Rated R Superstar" is back

Making his first appearance since WrestleMania 37 in April, Edge returned on Friday night's episode of WWE SmackDown, attacking Universal champion Roman Reigns.

Reigns was in the midst of giving his "State of the Universal Championship" address when Edge suddenly appeared, initiating a brawl.

Reigns eventually gained the upper hand, but when he went to use a chair, Edge speared him. He then prepped Reigns for a one-man con-chair-to until Jimmy Uso intervened. After a brief skirmish, Edge speared Jimmy through the ringside barricade.

Reigns' advocate Paul Heyman had name-dropped Edge earlier in the night when listing off everyone that Reigns had defeated as champion.

Reigns defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan in a triple threat match on the second night of WrestleMania 37 on April 11. Edge initially earned the title match by winning the 2021 men's Royal Rumble match, but Bryan was added into the bout in the weeks preceding WrestleMania.

As far as Edge challenging Reigns, there was a segment on SmackDown where Seth Rollins went to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville to request a title match with Reigns, which they wouldn't yet grant.
