EXCLUSIVE: Savio Vega Reveals How His WWE Return At Backlash Came Together

Savio Vega on his WWE Backlash appearance

In a hugely popular move, WWE brought back Savio Vega during the company's Backlash pay-per-view in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 6.

Vega initially appeared in a backstage segment to hand Bad Bunny a kendo stick emblazoned with the Puerto Rican flag before he helped Carlito, Rey Mysterio, and Bad Bunny take out Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio of The Judgment Day during the award-winning rapper's San Juan Street Fight with Damian Priest.

Speaking with Cultaholic Wrestling's Tom Campbell, Vega revealed how his WWE return came together.

"They got in contact with me because this is the mastermind of Damian Priest and Bad Bunny. They're both fans of me and I discovered that when I went to the farewell of The Undertaker. I saw Damian Priest there and I went to him, 'Hey man, how you doing? I want to take a picture with you.' He said, 'No, I want to take a picture with you.' So I talked to him a little bit there. We don't talk too much but we keep in touch by phone. This idea was them, more Damian Priest," Vega said.

After the singles match between Priest and Bad Bunny had been finalised, WWE called Vega to schedule his appearance for the show.

During his cameo at Backlash, Vega channelled his inner Kwang to take out Finn Balor with a number of chops. The Puerto Rican legend revealed that he did so following encouragement from Balor, who said backstage at Backlash that he was a huge fan of the New Generation character.

IWA, the promotion Savio Vega is involved with in Puerto Rico, have their major 'Armageddon' show coming up on May 20.
