First AEW World Champion Crowned, Tag Team Debuts At All Out
An eventful night...
There was no shortage of action at Chicago's Sears Center on Saturday night, as AEW's All Out delivered what it promised on at least one specific front: the crowning of its first World champion.
Nyla Rose won the Women's Casino Battle Royale in 20:50
Rose was one of the five initial entrants into the match, and eliminated half the field by her lonesome. The runner-up was Britt Baker, who had just eliminated Bea Priestley, but Priestley grabbed Baker's arm to facilitate Rose's winning elimination. Rose advances to the inaugural Women's title match on the TNT premiere on October 2 in Washington, DC.
Private Party def. Angelico and Jack Evans in 11:35
Fast-paced match with lots of off-the-charts athleticism, particularly in the finish as Angelico was pinned following Gin and Juice (a hurrachanrana/cutter combo). Angelico and Evans feigned sportsmanship before jumping Private Party afterward.
SCU def. Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Marko Stunt in 11:50
The undisputed star of the match was Luchasaurus, drawing massive reactions virtually any time he did anything. After a very well-executed PPV opener, Stunt was pinned following the BME/Tombstone combo (which both he and Jungle Boy took together).
PAC def. Kenny Omega via stoppage in 23:30
PAC's overdue AEW debut didn't disappoint, as he and Omega took endless risks (each violently smashing their legs on the guardrail on different spots), and emptied their endless tray of moves. PAC countered the One-Winged Angel into a Brutalizer (a crucifix submission), forcing Omega to pass out for the stoppage finish.
Cracker Barrel Clash: Jimmy Havoc def. Joey Janela and Darby Allin in 15:00
An utterly-crazy sponsored hardcore match saw staple guns, thumb tacks, tables, and even the prop wooden barrels get used. Allin's Coffin Drop using one barrel (onto the ring steps outside) took himself out, while Havoc soon finished Janela with the Acid Rainmaker.
The Dark Order def. Best Friends in 13:40
With the win, the Dark Order earn a first-round bye in the AEW World Tag Team title tournament. The Order's creepers got involved late in the bout, allowing for Evil Uno and Stu Grayson to polish off Trent Barreta with the Fatality. Afterward, Orange Cassidy appeared, taking out the creepers with his own signature suicide dive.
Riho def. Hikaru Shida in 13:35
The victory puts Riho into the match with Nyla Rose on the TNT premiere to crown the first AEW Women's champion. Shida's dominance and Riho's resilience told the story, with a ton of near falls in the closing moments before Riho eked out the win with a cradle.
Cody Rhodes def. Shawn Spears in 16:20
Rhodes did a Star Trek-themed entrance with Brandi, MJF, Pharoah, and even Diamond Dallas Page. The match was more of an old school brawl than anything, with Tully Blanchard running constant interference for Spears, and MJF trying to counter. Arn Anderson actually made the difference in the end, dropping Spears with a spinebuster to Blanchard's astonishment. Cody finished with the Cross Rhodes.
AAA World Tag Team titles/Escalera de la Muerte: The Lucha Bros def. The Young Bucks in 24:15 to retain the titles
Sheer insanity. Tables were shattered, complex dives executed, and they only escalated through the lengthy bout. Pentagon was briefly unmasked by Matt Jackson, but covered his face in time to take the elder Jackson out with the package piledriver/Fenix stomp onto a ladder bridge. After the Luchas pulled the belts down, they were attacked by two men in Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy masks (a nod to Point Break). They then revealed themselves to be Santana and Ortiz, LAX.
AEW World Heavyweight title: Chris Jericho def. Adam Page in 26:25 to win the title
Page made a special entrance riding a horse into the arena. Jericho tried to work over each of Page's limbs, but eventually ended up bloodied above his eye following a discus elbow from Page (calling back to last month). Multiple finishers couldn't end the match, nor could clever counters into finishers, until Jericho countered a Page discus elbow attempt into the Judas Effect, becoming the first AEW World titleholder.
