Former Champion In WCW Arrested

A former WCW Cruiserweight Champion has been arrested

A former champion in World Championship Wrestling has been arrested.

The Gaston County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina has revealed that Evan Karagias was arrested by Belmont Police on Wednesday, November 1. Karagias was arrested and charged with simple assault and injury to personal property. He was booked at 1:36 am on Wednesday and Karagias was released at 2:48 am after posting a $2500 bond.

Karagias was a part of WCW from 1997 until the promotion was purchased by Vince McMahon's WWE in March 2001. He is best remembered for his time as a member of 3 Count, a Y2K-era boy band faction that featured Karagias, Shane Helms, and Shannon Moore.

Karagias held the WCW Cruiserweight Championship for one month in late 1999. He won the belt from Disco Inferno at Mayhem on November 21 but Karagias would lose the belt to his former valet Madusa (AKA Alundra Blayze) at Starrcade on December 19.

Karagias would then hold the WCW Hardcore Championship concurrently with his 3 Count faction mates after they defeated Brian Knobbs. The faction lost the belt back to Knobbs in a Gauntlet Match at Uncensored 2000, however.

After WCW folded, Karagias' contract was picked up by WWE and he made his debut during the Invasion. He was rarely seen on WWE TV following a severe concussion, though, and he was released in December 2001 after wrestling several matches for the Heartland Wrestling Association, a WWE developmental territory.

Karagias retired from pro wrestling in 2010.
