Former WWE Divas Champion To Compete In Mae Young Classic

Last year, Serena Deeb. This year...

WWE have announced the first competitor in this year's Mae Young Classic, and it's a former Divas Champion.

In an official announcement on WWE.com, the company announced that Kaitlyn will be returning for the first time since 2014:

'With an extensive background in bodybuilding and power lifting, Kaitlyn used her remarkable strength and explosiveness to conquer opponents. She reached the summit of the division in January 2013 when she defeated Eve to capture the Divas Championship in her hometown of Houston on the 20th Anniversary of Raw. Kaitlyn held the title for 153 days before losing it to one of her greatest rivals, AJ Lee.;

Kaitlyn also won season 3 of NXT (when it was a reality show in the vein of Tough Enough, rather than the brand we know these days).

She retired from the wrestling business upon leaving WWE in 2014, focusing on her marriage and clothing line, but returned earlier this year.

In February she competed twice for Florida-based Coastal Championship Wrestling, first defeating Rachel Ellering (who wrestled in last year's Classic), then failing to win the CCW Ladies Championship in a triple threat.

Last year saw the return of a former WWE Superstar in the form of Serena Deeb, once a member of CM Punk's Straight Edge Society.

She defeated Vanessa Borne in the first round, before crashing out to Piper Niven in the second.

It'll be interesting to see how far Kaitlyn will go in the tournament, and whether any mention will be made of her real-life close friendship with fellow former WWE Superstar AJ Lee. AJ is of course also the wife of CM Punk, to whom WWE recently lost a legal battle.
