Four-Way IC Title Match Set For Next Week's WWE SmackDown

Apollo Crews has three opponents

A fatal four way for the WWE Intercontinental title is scheduled to take place on the May 21 edition of WWE SmackDown.

Champion Apollo Crews will defend his championship against three former titleholders in Big E, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn.

The catalyst for the match occurred during Friday night's SmackDown, during a segment in which Crews awarded Commander Azeez with the Nigerian Medal of Honor. Big E, Zayn, and Owens all disrupted the ceremony, and a brawl broke out.

Crews complained to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville backstage, but his complaints only resulted in Pearce booking him in a four-way match against the other three for the following week's SmackDown.

Crews has reigned as Intercontinental champion since the second night of WrestleMania 37 on April 11, when he defeated Big E in a "Nigerian Drum Fight". It was in that match that the former Dabba-Kato formally re-debuted as Azeez, helping Crews win.

Crews has since defended the IC title on two occasions. He defeated Owens on the April 23 SmackDown, while losing via disqualification to Big E on the April 30 broadcast.
