Frankie Kazarian Reveals Why He Left AEW

Frankie Kazarian has opened up on reasons behind leaving AEW

Frankie Kazarian’s last match on AEW programming came at the back end of 2022 when he suffered a loss at the hands of Konosuke Takeshita on an episode of AEW Dark. The former AEW World Tag Team Champion hasn’t been seen since in AEW, with it emerging that he had parted ways with the company, taking his business to the likes of IMPACT Wrestling and elsewhere on the independent wrestling scene.

Even with two years left on his deal, Kazarian and AEW agreed to end things, and Kazarian has revealed why this decision was made in an interview on the Kurt Angle Show.

"When I left last year, I still had two years left on my contract when I left. I made the decision to leave. I still had two years left. I probably could have been there much longer. It just became apparent to me that what I like and what I appreciate about pro wrestling and the way I like it presented was not happening at AEW, and that's not an indictment of them. It's just what they perceive as good television wrestling and what I do are different things, and just the business model, everything.

“Again, it was one of those things I feel, and still do to this day, that I feel that I have so much more to offer than what I was being utilized for in AEW. So I bet on myself and I made the decision to walk away and I am very thankful I did. It's by far the best decision I could have made where I am right now.”

Kazarian’s time in AEW following the end of the SCU faction wasn’t all that notable, with the former tag champ being featured less and less as time went on, which no doubt played a role in him making the decision to walk away.
