Gable Steveson has returned to amateur wrestling, with it being announced that Steveson will wrestle for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 2024/25 season. Steveson returns to college due to having another year of eligibility.

"First I would like to thank the University of Minnesota for their time, their effort and their persistence with me to push me to the man I am today. Minnesota has given me everything, and now it's my turn to give it right back to them: to put my feet back on the wrestling mat, to be the champ, one more time," Steveson said.

Steveson is a two-time NCAA national champion and Hodge Trophy winner. The Olympic gold medallist stepped away from amateur wrestling to pursue pro wrestling with WWE in 2021.

WWE had high hopes for Steveson but the Olympian failed to impress and he was released in May 2024, several months after his infamous in-ring debut against Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash.

Steveson joined the NFL's Buffalo Bills following his WWE release but he was cut by the team ahead of the 2024 season as the Bills finalised their 53-man roster.
