Gable Steveson Withdraws From Amateur Wrestling World Championships

Gable Steveson no longer competing at Amateur Wrestling World Championships

WWE star Gable Steveson has withdrawn from the upcoming Amateur Wrestling World Championships, after having qualified for the event in June.

Steveson informed USA Wrestling that he will not be competing at the event in Serbia from September 16 - 24, with Mason Parris replacing him in the competition. It is unclear at the time of writing why Steveson has withdrawn from the championships.

The Olympic gold medalist made his long-awaited WWE in-ring debut in July, wrestling to a count-out draw with Baron Corbin at NXT’s Great American Bash in Cedar Park, Texas. Steveson has been with WWE since 2021, but hasn’t been seen since The Great American Bash, with those in attendance reacting negatively to his match and booing heavily.

Steveson remained in the amateur wrestling scene despite signing with WWE in 2021, having won the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy after signing his professional wrestling contract. Steveson’s return to amateur competition came earlier this year, with Steveson competing for the first time since his Olympic gold medal win at the 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan (the games took place in 2021).
