Gable Steveson Wrestles In SmackDown Dark Match

A surprising name showed up at last night’s WWE SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution taping in Vancouver. NXT wrestler and Olympic Gold Medallist Gable Steveson arrived for a dark match prior to the event, competing against Cedric Alexander.
It had been reported by PWInsider earlier in the day that Steveson was local to SmackDown, though it wasn’t initially known if there were any plans for him at the event. It turns out there was, and he defeated Alexander in a match. This was Steveson’s first ever match at a main roster show, previously only competing on NXT live events and one televised match when he took on Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash 2023, which ended in a double countout.
It isn’t known whether this means Steveson will receive a main roster call-up any time soon. Steveson has shown up on occasion on WWE’s main programming, appearing at WrestleMania 38 in an in-ring segment, and again alongside Kurt Angle on RAW later on in the year.
