Goldberg Tried To Get Involved With Sting's AEW Retirement Match

Goldberg wants to be involved in Sting's retirement match

Sting will finally walk away from the professional wrestling ring at the upcoming AEW Revolution event, ending a career which has survived through four decades.

AEW have made a big deal out of this, building the March 3 show solely around Sting’s final match thus far, though no opponent has been announced as of yet. The only thing fans know is that it will be Sting’s last ever match in professional wrestling, and his long-time friend and rival Ric Flair will be present in some capacity. Someone else who wanted to get involved in the occasion was another former WCW legend, Goldberg.

When speaking in an interview on the Steve & Captain Evil podcast, Goldberg talked about his huge level of respect for Sting, and even revealed that he tried to get himself involved at the upcoming Revolution show.

“Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example. He's about to retire. I tried to be part of his retirement match. I would not have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn't for Sting. He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, it truly is. I never looked at it with much respect, but after I watched him from afar, I realized that I had the ability to go do it. He was not only a performer. He had self-respect and he commanded respect. He's one of the best human beings on the planet and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab it and run with it and make him proud. I had the best time of my life in the ring with Sting.”

Goldberg didn’t actually reveal whether or not his attempts to get involved have been successful, so fans will have to wait and see if Goldberg ends up showing up in AEW. It has been revealed in the past that Tony Khan and Goldberg have shared some form of communication.
