Gunther's WWE WrestleMania 40 Plans Revealed

Gunther has a big match at WWE WrestleMania 40

Gunther's plans for WWE WrestleMania 40 have been revealed.

WWE held a Gauntlet Match on the March 11 edition of Monday Night Raw to determine Gunther's challenger for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. The match began with Ricochet vs. JD McDonagh, with Ricochet scoring the first fall before Bronson Reed eliminated the former United States Champion. Sami Zayn then managed to eliminate Reed, only to be attacked by Bronson after scoring the fall.

This left Zayn struggling but he managed to eliminate Shinsuke Nakamura which brought the match down to Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable. The final two competitors fought back and forth for over 10 minutes and Gable looked set to score the win after applying the Ankle Lock but Zayn managed to roll up Gable for the 1-2-3.

Zayn and Gable hugged after the match before Sami had a staredown with Gunther to end Monday Night Raw. Which night Gunther vs. Sami Zayn will take place on has yet to be announced.

Gunther and Sami Zayn have only had one televised singles match, which ended with a win for Gunther in June 2023. Sami Zayn's good friend El Generico had better luck against the then-Walter in 2012, even defeating him for the wXw Unified World Wrestling Title.

Gunther's original WrestleMania 40 plans would have seen him face Brock Lesnar but the former WWE Champion's return was scrapped after he was implicated in Janel Grant's lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis.
