GUNTHER Successfully Retains Intercontinental Championship On WWE SmackDown

GUNTHER defeated Xavier Woods on SmackDown to retain Intercontinental Title

GUNTHER’s unstoppable reign as Intercontinental Champion looks set to continue even longer as the Ring General continues to pile even more pressure on the Honky Tonk Man’s long-standing record-breaking run with the gold.

On the April 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, GUNTHER took on The New Day’s Xavier Woods in a first time ever singles match. Despite a valiant effort in which Woods even had the courage to slap GUNTHER in the face, it was the Intercontinental Champion who got the upper hand, winning the match with a Gojira Clutch.

The story may not necessarily have ended there, as Woods remained strong even in defeat by simply passing out rather than submitting, and he is one of just a few who haven’t fallen to a pinfall defeat either. GUNTHER’s reign now stretches to over 313 days, which keeps him in fifth position in the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champions of all time, with him still having a little while to go before he beats the record of 454 days.
