Gunther Vs. Rey Mysterio Set For 11/4 WWE SmackDown

For the IC title

Rey Mysterio's shot at Gunther's Intercontinental title will come at the November 4 episode of WWE SmackDown, airing one night before the Crown Jewel pay-per-view.

Mysterio earned the shot by winning a four way match on last week's SmackDown, defeating Sheamus, Solo Sikoa, and Ricochet after pinning Ricochet. On this past Friday's edition of SmackDown, Mysterio defeated Gunther associate Ludwig Kaiser.

Mysterio moved to SmackDown on the same night he earned the title shot, as part of a storyline where he (as a then-Raw talent) wanted to leave WWE altogether following the betrayal of his son Dominik. Triple H convinced Mysterio to stick around, and put him in the four way match as a replacement for Karrion Kross.

Gunther has reigned as Intercontinental champion since June 10, when he defeated Ricochet. His last high-profile title defense took place on the October 7 SmackDown, defeating Sheamus.

Mysterio is a former two-time Intercontinental champion, winning the belt twice in 2009. His first reign began at WrestleMania 25, when he defeated champion JBL in what turned out to be JBL's retirement match.
