Hijo Del Vikingo Wins AAA Mega Title At Triplemania Regia

The vacancy has been filled

Hijo del Vikingo is the new AAA Mega champion, after capturing the vacant title in a multi-man match at Triplemania Regia on Saturday night in Monterrey.

Vikingo defeated Bobby Fish, Jay Lethal, Samuray del Sol, and Bandido in a five-way one fall match to win the vacant championship. After a spirited final sequence with many near falls, Vikingo pinned Samuray with a top rope splash to win the title.

This marks 24-year-old Vikingo's first reign as Mega champion. Previously in AAA, Vikingo held the World Trios title on two occasions, and has won several tournaments, including Copa Antonio Pena in 2019.

Vikingo is also the current Heavyweight champion of The Crash, having won the title on November 5 after defeating Bandido, Willie Mack, and Dragon Lee in Tijuana.

Previous Mega champion Kenny Omega was forced to vacate the title on November 22, due to an accumulation of injuries. Omega had previously reigned as champion for 765 days, after defeating Rey Fenix on October 19, 2019.

Omega's last defense of the title came on August 14, when he defeated Andrade el Idolo at Triplemania XXIX in Mexico City.
