IMPACT Wrestling's Ace Austin On Comparisons To AJ Styles

“I’m called the best because I am the best”

IMPACT Wrestling’s Ace Austin spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso ahead of his X Division Championship win against TJP at last weekend’s Sacrifice PPV.

Talk to turned to past X Division Champions before him, with comparisons made between Austin and AJ Styles. On the comparisons, Austin said:

“I’m constantly compared to AJ Styles, and I’m compared to the best because I am the best. But it’s like your earlier question. I’m compared to him, but I am not in his shadow. I’m creating something special my own way.”

Austin was also asked about the rumours that AEW’s Sammy Guevara refused to wrestle him as part of the AEW/IMPACT crossover:

“We never really know the full situation. All I know is that the public is excited to witness an encounter between myself and Sammy Guevara. That encounter is inevitable. I’m disappointed that it hasn’t happened yet, but that time will come.”

At only 24, Austin is only just getting started, and it remains to be seen if those comparisons to AJ Styles will be a blueprint for success, or a shackle around his neck. As for the Sammy Guevara natch, it seems a case of 'never say never'.
