The biggest weekend in the North American pro-wrestling calendar has officially gotten underway, with several events taking place in California on Thursday, March 30 to set the weekend off on the right foot.
Arguably the biggest event on March 30 was IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United at PWG's stomping ground, LA's Globe Theater. The follow-up to 2022’s Multiverse of Matches, Multiverse United was a show that was rocked with turbulence during the final preparations, with IMPACT World Champion Josh Alexander forced to abandon his reign due to a triceps injury, whilst IMPACT Knockouts World Champion Mickie James was also pulled from the show due to a broken rib.
With James hoping to be cleared in time for IMPACT Rebellion on April 16, IMPACT replaced James in her planned four-way title defence at Multiverse United with Masha Slamovich, with Slamovich fighting Gisele Shaw, Deonna Purrazzo, and Miyu Yamashita for a shot at the title at Rebellion. In the end, Purrazzo would emerge victorious, and will now face Jordynne Grace and possibly Mickie James for the strap at the PPV.
Three titles were also on the line at the event, but there was to be no changing of the guard, with KENTA successfully defending the STRONG Openweight Championship against Minoru Suzuki, Bullet Club retaining the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships in a four-way, and Trey Miguel emerged from a six-man scramble match with the X-Division Championship firmly around his waist.
Elsewhere, KUSHIDA picked up a win over Lio Rush, with Rush subbing in for Josh Alexander as a last-minute replacement, and Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Mike Bailey in the night’s main event.
