It was very much a blink and you’ll miss it moment, but last night’s Friday Night SmackDown featured the return of an injured wrestler who has been out of action for over a year.

In a backstage segment in which new WWE Women’s Tag Team Title number one contenders Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss were talking with Women’s United States Champion Giulia, the returning Kiana James could be seen lurking in the background, perhaps suggesting her eyes are on the United States Title. Earlier in the night, Kiana James returned to the ring for a taping of WWE Main Event, taking on Michin. This marked James’ first match since June 2024 when she lost in a Money In The Bank qualifier in a triple threat involving Iyo Sky and Zelina Vega.

James was hampered by a long-term leg injury in 2024 that kept her out of action for more than a year, though it was noted in recent months that WWE were “very high” on James due to her work ethic and dedication during her absence and rehabilitation. She first made an impression on NXT, winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.
