The WWE Intercontinental Championship match that was scheduled for Night of Champions has been scrapped and replaced with another non-title bout.
On last night's edition of Raw, General Manager Adam Pearce informed AJ Styles that his match with Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio was off as 'Dirty Dom' was not cleared to compete. Pearce told the Phenomenal One that he would receive a shot at Mysterio's IC title as soon as Mysterio is ready.
It was not specified exactly what injury was preventing Mysterio from competing in Riyadh on June 28, but during an interview that took place during a commercial break, he noted that his ribs were not feeling 100 per cent.
Dominik last competed on the June 9 episode of Raw in a four-way King of the Ring first-round match, which was won by Sami Zayn.
Zayn would lose to Randy Orton in the semi-finals and, on last night's Raw, Karrion Kross taunted him about the loss, which resulted in Zayn laying out Kross and confirming that a match between the two had been made for Night of Champions.
Elsewhere, WWE confirmed that a Street Fight between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez would take place at Night of Champions.
The Saudi Arabian government still expect the premium live event to go ahead as planned, despite hostilities between Iran and the United States.
