Intercontinental Title Match Set For WWE Day 1 (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Who will Shinsuke Nakamura face?

The Intercontinental title match is set for WWE Day 1, following last night's tapings of next Friday night's WWE SmackDown broadcast in Chicago, where a 12-man top contenders gauntlet took place.

Reigning champion Shinsuke Nakamura will put the title on the line against the winner of that gauntlet, Sami Zayn. Zayn was the last entrant into the gauntlet, pinning Ricochet after Ricochet eliminated Sheamus, Humberto, and Jinder Mahal in succession.

Nakamura has reigned as Intercontinental champion since August 13, when he defeated Apollo Crews on an episode of SmackDown.

The current card for WWE Day 1, taking place Saturday, January 1 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, is as follows:

* WWE World: Big E (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley

* WWE Universal: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

* Raw Women's: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan

* SmackDown Tag Team: The Usos (c) vs. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston

* WWE Intercontinental: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Sami Zayn

* Edge vs. The Miz

* Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss

* Plus, a special appearance from Migos
