JBL: WrestleMania 12 Iron Man Match Made Me Feel Like I Didn't Belong In WWE

One of the greatest events Bradshaw had seen

John "Bradshaw" Layfield has revealed watching the Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels Iron Man Match at WrestleMania 12 made him consider quitting WWE simply because of how "incredible" the match was.

"I remember watching that match and literally thinking, 'I don't belong here.' It was the greatest spectacle I'd ever seen. When Shawn repelled from the ceiling, he and Bret had that incredible 60-minute match, went overtime... it was one of the greatest events I'd ever seen," JBL said on the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling Podcast.

"I just remember thinking, 'I shouldn't be here. I don't have the ability to be here. I don't have the talent to be here. I need to go back to Japan and finish up my career.' That's a very distinct memory. In fact, I can almost feel it today when I was sitting there at the Arrowhead Pond [WrestleMania 12 venue] watching that."

Prior to his WWE debut in January 1996 as Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, JBL worked tours in Japan first for Network Of Wrestling and then Genichiro Tenryu's WAR. The former WWE Champion also wrestled on the European independent wrestling scene for the Catch Wrestling Association in between shows for various Texas-based promotions.
