John Cena Appears On WWE SmackDown, Match For 12/30 Announced

Cena will be in tag team action

John Cena will wrestle his first match in over one year when he competes in tag team action on the December 30 edition of SmackDown in Tampa.

For the match, Cena will team with Kevin Owens to take on WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns and partner Sami Zayn.

Reigns and Zayn agreed to team together earlier on Friday's SmackDown, and they challenged Owens to find a partner for the future match. At the end of SmackDown, Cena appeared on the Titan Tron during an in-ring segment involving The Bloodline.

In his promo, Cena said Owens had texted him, pointing out that Cena had wrestled at least once a year in WWE since 2002, but had yet to wrestle in 2022. Cena then said he would team with Owens to keep that streak alive.

This will be Cena's first match on television since losing to Reigns at the 2021 SummerSlam. His most recent match was a six-man dark match at the September 10, 2021 SmackDown tapings.

The December 30 SmackDown takes place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. No other matches have been announced.
