John Cena On His WWE Title Match At ECW One Night Stand 2006: "It Was Beautiful"

The Hammerstein Ballroom crowd certainly agreed

Throughout John Cena’s run at the top of WWE, he received his fair share of ‘mixed’ reactions. But at ECW One Night Stand 2006, the leader of the Cenation was the most vilified man in pro wrestling, as the then WWE Champion put the title on the line against ECW original Rob Van Dam in ‘enemy territory’.

However, Cena reflected on the event during the recent Florida Supercon, and described the experience as ‘beautiful’:

“Four hours before the event [I found out I was losing the title] and it was beautiful. It was beautiful. It honestly was and I wouldn’t have it no other way. That’s a night that I cherish. It was fantastic.”

The atmosphere for the match was one of the greatest in pro wrestling history, with the Hammerstein Ballroom crowd famously threatening to riot if Cena won.

Luckily for the city of New York Rob Van Dam left with the WWE Title, and was also crowned ECW World Champion within the week.
