John Cena Vs. Austin Theory Officially Set To Open Night 1 Of WrestleMania 39

Austin Theory Vs. John Cena Will Kick Off WrestleMania 39 Weekend

Often when it comes to WrestleMania, fans don’t know which match will open the show until the night itself when a wrestler’s music hits or the first video package airs. In the case of WrestleMania 39 Saturday, it has already been revealed which match will kick off proceedings.

During the March 24 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, it was revealed that the United States Championship match between Austin Theory and the returning John Cena would start off the show this year. It isn’t clear why exactly this is the case, whether it be Cena’s schedule or just WWE wanting to give fans a big match to open the event.

The last time John Cena opened a WrestleMania was at his first one all the way back in 2004 at WrestleMania 20 where he defeated The Big Show to win the United States Championship for the first time. History could well repeat itself for Cena in this opening match, or it could perhaps complete a full circle on Cena’s career with him putting over a younger name.
