John Hennigan Wins MLW National Openweight Title

John Hennigan has gold around his waist once again.

The former Johnny Nitro/Elite/PROGRESS/IMPACT/Mundo was in action on the Tuesday, February 28 edition of MLW Underground on Reelz as he challenged Davey Richards for the MLW National Openweight Championship. 

Both men fought back and forth but the contest ended in controversial circumstances. Hennigan was accompanied to the ring by Taya Valkyrie and Cesar Duran but he looked set to lose the match after Davey Richards avoided a Starship Pain and locked in a submission. Duran distracted the referee while the submission was applied, however, and Valkyrie proceeded to take advantage and deck Richards with her Women's Featherweight Title. Hennigan then pinned Richards for the victory. 

The match was taped back on January 7. Richards had been MLW National Openweight Champion since defeating Alex Kane for the belt on November 17. 

Hennigan only recently returned to Major League Wrestling on February 21, aligning with Duran and Sam Adonis.
