Johnny Gargano Reportedly Being Positioned As WWE NXT's Top Heel

WWE are reportedly planning on positioning Johnny Gargano as NXT's leading heel character going forward. 

Gargano has been on the heel side of the roster since early 2020, when he reignited his long-standing feud with Tommaso Ciampa, and has since formed his own faction in The Way along with wife Candice LeRae, Austin Theory and Indi Hartwell.

Gargano has flirted with the main event scene in NXT as a heel, competing for the NXT Title in the last couple of months, and now PWInsider is reporting that the 34-year-old is set to be the brand's main heel going forward. 

NXT has lost Karrion Kross to the main roster following his defeat to Samoa Joe at NXT TakeOver: 36 while Adam Cole has also departed the black-and-hold brand, with reports indicating that the former leader of the Undisputed Era is done with WWWE.

With that in mind, Gargano is set for a renewed push as an established heel in NXT. Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong are also set to become main players on the heel side of the roster in NXT going forward.
