Johnny Gargano Reveals Why He Returned To WWE

Johnny Gargano explains why he came back to WWE

After several months as a free agent, Johnny Gargano returned to WWE during the August 22 edition of Monday Night Raw to a raucous reaction in Toronto. The former NXT Champion has since kicked off a programme with former protege Austin Theory and Gargano will wrestle for the first time since December 2021 on tonight's episode of Raw.

Speaking about his return on After The Bell, Gargano revealed that going to another promotion did cross his mind but he ultimately opted to re-sign with WWE because he wanted to try and achieve success on the main roster.

"Obviously, it crossed my mind. I watch everything. I'm a wrestling fan. We're all wrestling nerds at the end of the day. I'm a wrestling fan. It always just came back down to, and I said this in my return promo, when I was a kid, I dreamed of being Intercontinental Champion. I dreamed of being WWE Champion and wrestling at WrestleMania. Those things hold so much weight to me. I don't know if 20-30 years down the line if I could forgive myself for not trying. I never really tried. I did everything in NXT and was fulfilled in NXT and proud of it, but I didn't try on that scale yet. I haven't done it and I wanted to do it," Gargano said.

Outside of a brief main roster run in 2019, Gargano spent his first stint in WWE in NXT, becoming one of the brand's top stars.
