Kenny Omega Never Thought He Would Be A Full-Time Wrestler In The United States

"I thought for sure I was going to retire in Japan"

Now one of professional wrestling's most recognisable stars, Kenny Omega rose to stardom during his time in Japan. The Cleaner performed in the Land of the Rising Sun for DDT, AJPW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling across an 11-year run and he is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Omega now finds himself in All Elite Wrestling, though, and The Wrestling God admitted on Wrestling With The Week that he thought he would retire in Japan.

"If you would have asked me how I would see myself years from now, I never would have said, 'I'm going to be a full-time wrestler in America.' I thought for sure I was going to retire in Japan and I was heavily leaning towards just living in Japan for the rest of my days," Omega said.

"Of course, I'd maybe do the odd thing in America because we were trying to do a crossover anyway. It's really surprising and goes to show that you can't plan for these things. You can't plan for this phenomenon that is AEW or the pandemic, but we're rolling with the punches and I'm rolling with all these belt reigns."

Omega has, of course, enjoyed enormous success in the United States so far and he is currently the reigning AEW World Champion and IMPACT World Champion. He is also Mexican promotion AAA's Mega Champion.
