Recent AEW World champion Kenny Omega has revealed that an in-ring return is still some time away, as he is still waiting to undergo hernia surgery.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio on Friday, Omega revealed that he originally intended to return to the ring in February. But as of now, he's still awaiting surgery on an umbilical hernia.

"I was hoping to be back by February. It's not looking that way anymore" said Omega. "That's not to say there was a huge snag or something that is terribly wrong, it's not that. It's just, trying to get appointments and things fixed, you have it in your brain, 'Oh yeah, I can call a number and get in the next day.' Unfortunately, there are sometimes waiting lists or other complications which create follow-up appointments and things like that, and the whole COVID thing, which has backed everything up by two weeks or so.

"That's caused me to miss appointments, which caused me to re-book and that extends the time."

Omega has estimated that after getting surgery, he would likely be six to eight weeks out from an in-ring return. He adds that while doctors have told him he could work around the hernia, he wants to avoid tearing it, thus requiring more time on the shelf.
