Kevin Owens emotionally revealed to fans on the April 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown that he was required to undergo surgery due to a neck injury suffered this year, which had been bothering him for a little while. This meant that his WrestleMania 41 match with Randy Orton was cancelled, something he was saddened about. Owens shed his heel persona for this more authentic and real segment, apologising to fans but stating that he took nothing for granted.
The segment came to an end as Randy Orton emerged for a small face-off with Owens, before parting ways as Owens walked to the back. The camera followed Owens for a moment, and caught him having some sort of interaction with an audience member, before the feed cut back to Orton in the ring. Fan footage shared on social media by X user @ambayybayy showed a closer up version of events that featured a fan shouting at the clearly downtrodden Owens, “You’re still sh*t”. Owens turned back, asking who said it, swearing and telling the fan that he was a “piece of sh*t” and to “f*ck himself”.
It is hard to blame Owens for his reaction given the information he’d just shared. Since SmackDown, Owens has revealed some more information about when he received his injury, in addition to noting that he was unhappy that the news got out prior to his announcement.
