Kurt Angle: James Storm Could Have Been A Big Star In WWE

The Cowboy had a brief run in NXT in 2015

One of the TNA/IMPACT’s most storied sons, Jame Storm is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, but wrestled a handful of matches for WWE NXT in 2015, before re-signing with TNA.

Since then, Storm’s career seemingly plateaued, whilst former Beer Money Inc. tag partner Robert Roode became NXT Champion, before holding several titles on WWE’s main roster.

The subject of Storm came up on a recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show podcast, with Angle saying the following about his former rival amidst criticism from the likes of Eric Bischoff and Bruce Prichard:

“I thought James was awesome. I thought his in-ring skills were great. His promo skills were off the chart.  He had a great character. He had a great look. He had all the facets to be a very successful pro wrestler. I don’t know if this is what Bruce and Eric were talking about, but the one thing I thought that James might have, and it’s very minute, it’s very small, and I’m not sure if that’s what Eric and Bruce were talking about, but James tended to be a little lazy every once in a while. That was his only downfall. It wasn’t even that much of a problem. It was just every once in a while he would get just a little bit lazy. I’m not sure if that’s what Eric and Bruce were talking about, but as far as his performance and his consistency, he was damn good. He was really good.”

After his few appearances on NXT, Storm re-signed with TNA, and WWE seemingly never came knocking again:

“I just think that WWE looked him over,” continued Angle. “I know that they gave him an opportunity to go to NXT and he didn’t take the offer and they never offered again. I do believe he would have been a big star in WWE.”
