LA Knight celebrating with fireworks

A new WWE United States Champion in the men’s division has been crowned! WWE headed to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night for Friday Night SmackDown, and the show hosted a rematch between reigning United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and the former champion LA Knight.

In the main event of last night’s show, Shinsuke Nakamura sought to use underhanded tactics to retain his gold. The referee was taken out with poison mist to the eyes, leading Nakamura to attempt at using a steel chair. However, Knight took advantage of the laid out referee, hitting his BFT finisher on the chair. Another referee sprinted down to the ring to count the one, two, three, as Knight defeated Nakamura via pinfall to become the brand new United States Champion, beginning his second reign with the gold.

Back at the 2024 Survivor Series premium live event, Nakamura shocked fans by defeating LA Knight clean for the gold, before taking it to Pro Wrestling NOAH for a match. Nakamura spent 97 days as champion, only defending it once against LA Knight in January when the match ended in a disqualification.
