Latest on AEW/WBD Rights Discussions

AEW & WBD were in talks this week

Despite a lot of talk and rumblings in the last few weeks, still no new TV deal has been announced between AEW and Warner Bros Discovery as of yet, with it even being rumoured in recent times that an announcement for a deal was imminent.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week, Dave Meltzer has revealed that the deal is not yet done, and that negotiations are still ongoing between the two sides. It is noted that talks have continued over the last week, and that WBD are in no talks with any other professional wrestling promotion (and vice versa for AEW in terms of a TV deal).

When it comes to the decreased ratings of AEW programming in recent weeks, Meltzer states that momentum isn’t on AEW’s side when it comes to their discussions with WBD, with ratings mattering more than ever right now. Both AEW and WBD sources claimed to not be worried about recent drops in ratings, especially the surprisingly low June 19 figure, which was AEW Dynamite’s worst ever rating in their usual Wednesday time slot.
