Latest On Ilja Dragunov's Future & AEW Rumours

The future of former NXT & United States Champion Ilja Dragunov has been on the minds of many over the last couple of days after it emerged that he had decided to depart WWE upon the expiration of his contract, with reports revealing that WWE had wanted to keep Dragunov in the promotion, only for the two sides to be far apart on terms for a new deal. AEW is always brought up in discussions with talent who are exiting WWE, and a small update on this has emerged. 

Although there are no concrete discussions on Ilja Dragunov heading to AEW, it is noted by Fightful Select that there is certainly a hunch in the industry that this is where he’ll be going, but sources in AEW have reportedly not heard anything as of yet about Dragunov being brought in. A source in former home wXw stated that they’d be surprised if Dragunov returned to the indies with a bookable rate, with a fellow European promoter also expecting Dragunov to head to AEW.

On the ROH Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was also asked about Dragunov, but he remained coy on anything official. 

“I’m not sure about the contractual status, but that’s a tremendous, tremendous professional wrestler, absolutely. I don’t know exactly what the contractual status is of people that don’t work here, I can’t keep track of those things and there is no way for me to know that, but one thing I do know is that’s a great wrestler.”
