At Backlash 2026, John Cena emerged to reveal the creation of the ‘John Cena Classic’, a special event and championship that has the intention of spotlighting younger and newer stars, with the winner of the title being determined by fan votes rather than actual winners or losers, causing a lot of confusion upon its announcement. Details have remained sparse regarding WWE’s plans, but a specific date has now emerged.

Recent reports about the John Cena Classic noted that WWE had spoken on hosting the event in December, lining up with Cena’s December retirement in 2025, with it set to be held at least before the end of the year. According to a report from False Finish, WWE is looking to host the John Cena Classic on Saturday December 12, though no location has been revealed as of yet.

PWInsider also stated that WWE is looking to host the event post-Survivor Series, which would line up with all of the other reports. It was also revealed that WWE was planning to host Crown Jewel in November, returning the event to Saudi Arabia with the “champion vs. champion” concept still remaining the plan.
