Update on WWE Speed

Has WWE Speed already been scrapped?

WWE debuted a new match concept in December 2023, as 'WWE Speed' was taped at a double taping of Friday Night SmackDown. The matches taped have yet to air despite being filmed and WWE commentators were ringside for the matches.

Fightful Select wrote in December: We're told that Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick were on commentary, and the matches were filmed as if they'd be broadcasted, though we've not heard of any specific plans as of yet. Previously, NXT talent working pre-show matches was usually reserved for Main Event tapings ahead of WWE Raw.”

WWE Speed saw the company hold two matches with a five-minute time limit, with the idea behind the concept being that talents will have fast-paced matches as they look to secure the win quickly. Matches taped included Cedric Alexander vs. Axiom and Bronson Reed vs. Nathan Frazer.

WWE have since filed to trademark "WWE Speed" but nothing has been seen of the concept since its brief test in December.

The concept may not be returning either, with Fightful Select now reporting they have heard nothing new about WWE Speed and as best they know, it was simply a concept.
