Trademark Filed For 'WWE Speed'

WWE is moving ahead with their new "Speed" concept

During the double taping of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown, WWE tried out a new match concept. The unofficial debut of “WWE Speed” saw two matches take place in Cedric Alexander vs. Axiom and Bronson Reed vs. Nathan Frazer, both of which had a five minute time limit. The timer was shown ticking down on the titantron, making for fast-paced matches in order to try and get the win quickly.

It was noted that the commentators were ringside for this, and it was all filmed as though it was set to be broadcast at some point down the line.

It looks as though WWE were happy with how this match type went down, as they have officially filed for the trademark of “WWE Speed”.

WWE’s trademark filing for WWE Speed is listed for the following purposes:

“Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”

It isn’t known if the previous two matches were just a speedrun of sorts to trial it out, or whether it was the official launch of a new show.
