Longtime WWE WrestleMania 8 Rumour Debunked

A longtime rumour about WWE WrestleMania 8 has been quashed

WWE WrestleMania VIII certainly had its ups and downs, with the matches between Bret Hart and Roddy Piper, and Randy Savage and Ric Flair two of the best in WrestleMania history.

The main event though? Not so much.

Hulk Hogan took on heel Sid Justice in Mania VIII’s closer, with Sid being the first person to ever kick out of the Immortal Leg Drop after the interfering Papa Shango missed his cue to run in and break the count. However, according to Sid’s manager at the time Harvey Wippleman, everything in the main event went to plan, with Wippleman saying the following about the match to WrestlingNews.co:

“A lot of people ask me this question, as if something got screwed up or somebody wasn’t on time or something didn’t go as planned. Untrue. Every single thing that took place in that match went down exactly as it was supposed to,” said Wippleman.

Rumours long suggested that the ending - which resulted in a DQ victory for Hogan - came about because Sid didn’t want to job on his way out of the company. The match also saw the return of The Ultimate Warrior, with Warrior’s involvement also reported as some to have been off-cue. According to the good doctor anyway these are all falsehoods.
