Kenny Omega Picked Up Scar From Bicycle Shot In AEW Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight

Bike shots to the head do indeed hurt, Kenny Omega has confirmed

It is almost a rite of passage as a child to take a tumble over the bike handlebars but very few of us can say we have had a bicycle thrown at our heads.

One of those unlucky few is Kenny Omega, who was laid out by multiple bicycle shots to the head during the Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight on the November 15, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite. The match saw Omega team with Chris Jericho, Kota Ibushi, and Paul Wight to defeat Brian Cage, Konosuke Takeshita, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Kyle Fletcher.

Speaking about the bike spot with Gamespot, Omega admitted he couldn't believe some people thought it wouldn't hurt being hit in the head by the bicycle. The Best Bout Machine also sustained a permanent scar from the bike shot.

"I was involved in the Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight match. For as much as a kendo stick might hurt or some barbed wire, thumbtacks, being hit with a bicycle, full blast, we're talking 360, discus throw bicycle shot, there's never quite been anything like it. In fact, I don't even know if you can see it. I have a scar from the wheel hitting me. It's not going away. That's what a bike does to you. There were comments like, 'Oh, this is silly. Why would someone use a bike in a fight? How could that hurt?' I couldn't believe people actually think that, you're getting hit with a real-life bicycle! I get it. I've been there. I'm living it, still living it to this day," Omega stated.

"The dude had the bike in the ring. It's like, oh man, I know this is a show, 'Alright, I'll f*****g get hit with a bike.' So I go in the ring and I'm just getting walloped by this bike and I'm like, 'Yeah, you guys made the right decision, but someone had to do it.' Does that mean I won't do it ever again? No, shoot. Let me do promotional work again. I love matches like that. When those weapon attacks do more damage than your normal attack would, there's a reason for it. It's not fun, it's unpleasant."

The match was done to promote the Yakuza spinoff, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. The street fight reportedly earned AEW six figures from SEGA.

Kenny Omega is currently off AEW programming, having been diagnosed with diverticulitis in late 2023. The issue was so serious that Omega was close to having a 50% chance of death. The situation was moving in more of a positive direction as of last word but he is still out of action indefinitely.
