Matt Cardona Wins ECW Television Title From Rhino At GCW Notorious

Yes, this is a story from 2022

Strange as it may sound, it appears the 21-plus year ECW Television title reign of Rhino came to an end on Friday night.

Matt Cardona has defeated Rhino at GCW Notorious in Rhino's hometown of Detroit to seemingly capture the long-forgotten title.

Cardona noted on social media prior to the match that Rhino was the final ECW Television champion, but planned to change that by winning their match.

At the match's conclusion, Cardona brought out a sack that contained the Television title, which he struck Rhino with prior to pinning him. Cardona was then announced (with some reluctance by the ring announcer) as the new ECW Television champion, as he clutched the title.

If the title change is to be believed, Cardona's win ends a reign that began on September 9, 2000, when Rhino defeated Kid Kash in Mississauga, ON to regain the Television title, after having lost it to Kash two weeks earlier in New York.

Rhino's final defense of the belt took place on December 15, 2000, when he defeated Spike Dudley at a TV taping in Queens, NY. The following month, Rhino defeated The Sandman in an impromptu match to win the ECW World title, a week before ECW held its final card.
