Matt Hardy Dispels The 'Shane McMahon To AEW' Rumours As Completely False

The last few weeks have seen the pot stirred for what would be one of the most bizarre happenings in professional wrestling history, as there have been several rumours and wild speculation about the potential of Shane McMahon joining AEW. This talk heated up with reports of McMahon discussing AEW at an airport with current AEW TBS Champion & NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, Mercedes Mone, which was then confirmed by Mone herself.

Not everyone is in agreement on the chances of Shane o’Mac heading to AEW, and one of those is Matt Hardy, who noted on his Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast that those he spoke to told him that the rumours were untrue.

“He’s not. I heard from someone…none of that was true. It’s Matt Fiction, 100%, yeah. It would be wild. Shane reached out to someone, I said like, ‘Why is all this talk of me and AEW, why’s this going on?’ People started texting me about it, and reached out to someone and asked them about it, which was interesting.”

These rumblings began with McMahon’s WWE contract expiring, and Tony Khan revealing that McMahon was “always welcome” in AEW.
